From Where I Stand

The True Power of Women’s Unity

30 July 2025

There is a profound, almost electric energy that emerges when women come together, not just as friends, but as allies, confidantes, and catalysts for change. The power of women united cannot be underestimated; it is a force that shapes families, communities, and even nations.

Recently, I had the privilege of spending a sunlit afternoon in our beautiful capital, Abu Dhabi, “the capital of capitals”, with a dear friend, a former minister, a businesswoman and a woman whose integrity and values have always set her apart.

Our meeting was long overdue; for six months we had tried to align our schedules, each of us swept up in the relentless tide of work, travel, and family. As we finally sat down together, our souls felt an immediate sense of relief and joy: a homecoming of sorts.

I have always admired her courage and unwavering principles, but on this day, I discovered even deeper layers of wisdom and strength within her. She reminded me of the words of Maya Angelou: “Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.” Our conversation meandered from business ventures to the intricate corridors of political power, from the joys and trials of motherhood to the adventures of travel.

In sharing our journeys, we found reflections of ourselves in each other’s stories: a mosaic of resilience, ambition, and hope. Mature women driven by purpose, with a drive to make a difference, whether in their communities, businesses, or government, will always rock differently. Not many women know how to truly support each other, as there are so few of us in these spaces. But the evolved souls led by values and secure in themselves lead and support others in a way that is both rare and transformative.

The pain cuts deepest when women let insecurities or immaturity sabotage the sisterhood. There’s more than enough success, joy, and opportunity for everyone; the pie is big enough for all to share. Today, I was reminded of what true strength looks like. My friend was unapologetically real, genuine, and refreshingly direct, someone who doesn’t tolerate or dish out nonsense. Her unwavering focus and drive to make a difference are rare and beautiful, a powerful reminder of what women can achieve when they rise above the noise and support one another.

The pendulum for gender participation has reversed in some ways, and many women, in the name of supporting women, sometimes do the very opposite. It’s only a matter of time, however, before women collectively evolve and, I hope, learn to support each other like no other.

This afternoon was more than just a meeting; it was a celebration of friendship, leadership, and the unbreakable bond that forms when women come together with open hearts and shared purpose. In a world that often tries to divide, our unity is our greatest strength.
